A couple of clients over the last week have made me rethink how powerful our beliefs are. In one case a belief that a family history of 'bad knees' which would mean he was 'bound to have bad knees' led to a lifetime of avoiding overworking the legs. This meant avoiding training the muscle groups of the legs in order to prevent or delay the onset of knee pain and problems. This made me really sad as getting his legs strong is EXACTLY what he needs to help protect his knees and to keep him pain free. Squat, lunge, work those legs. In another case, a fear of pain returning meant a client working and moving under so much tension that her body ached and struggled with even basic movement.
